Born and raised in the suburbs of Leipzig, Germany. Initially trained as a skilled construction worker; worked as a plasterer; studied civil engineering. Studied restoration at a technical college, graduating in 2002 with a diploma in restoration [Diplom- Restaurator (FH)], equivalent to a BA. Specialised in mural painting and architectural colours.
Self-employed as a restorer since graduation; many years of experience working in palaces, castles, manor houses, churches, and residential buildings. My work led to an enthusiasm for opulent forms made from different combinations of materials, which thus boast an impressive visual impact.
Natural forms reinterpreted
The focus of my work is increasingly on creating original artistic objects using natural materials, especially those of the sea. The importance of species protection means certain materials are replaced by replicas and imitations.
Next to the conservation and restoration of culturally significant historical objects – where monument-preservation concerns and material-specific guidelines play an important role – these curious or grotesque objects allow space for creative freedom.
